In a significant setback for former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, a federal appeals court has rejected his bid to move his Georgia election interference criminal case to federal court.
Meadows had argued that the case should be heard in federal court because it involved alleged federal crimes. However, the appeals court upheld a lower court ruling that said Meadows' actions were not covered by federal law.
The Georgia case is one of several legal challenges facing Meadows, who is accused of working with former President Donald Trump and others to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
In a separate development, federal prosecutors have asked a judge to order Meadows to testify in a grand jury investigation into Trump's efforts to overturn the election.
Meadows has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in Georgia.
